The final round of Senior announcements for 2009!
Artist's Comments
Classic turn of the century (1900, not 2000) feature common in Bucks County, PA. The pully has been replaced, but the charm was not lost.

Amazing. You've taken something pretty straightforward and common and made it much more interesting just by your camera angle. To me this has almost a 3D effect because the presence of the pulley lifts the arm it is hanging from away from the rest of the picture. Your choice of colorization seems to emphasize that effect. If the arm and pulley were not there, your color choice would make the picture seem very flat. I imagine if you had used full color, the effect of the arm and pulley as an eye-grabber would have been lost.
-- In truth there is no such thing in man's nature as a settled and full resolve either for good or evil, except at the very moment of execution. - Nathaniel Hawthorne, Twice-Told Tales "Fancy's Show Box" Ahh...but that's the beauty of sepia (or black & white). Color is color. But black and white can be manipulated in any way that you want through the use of color filters. In this case, a green filter darkened the siding - which made the pully pop.
Try converting some of your own snapshots into black and white. If you have something like photoshop, try using the Black and White conversion method (under Image>>Adjustments>>Black&White) to see how a filter might impact the image. It's really interesting to see how it all works. -- Coplan ~/ Shutter Photo |
